Guidelines: working safely in accordance with ATEX and VIAG
Some working environments require more than standard protection. Think of places where gas, vapor, or dust can pose an explosion hazard, or work on gas installations. Additional safety guidelines apply in these cases, such as ATEX and VIAG.

ATEX Directive: Safe in Explosive Atmospheres
ATEX concerns working safely in places where an explosive atmosphere can arise due to gas, vapor, or dust. The rules are laid down in two directives: 2014/34/EU for requirements for equipment and protective equipment, and 1999/92/EC for the obligations of employers and employees in the workplace.
Zones and clothing
Explosion hazards are classified into gas zones 0, 1, 2 and dust zones 20, 21, 22. Work clothing and PPE used here must prevent electrostatic discharge, often in accordance with EN 1149.
Always combine the clothing with grounded shoes and a conductive floor. ATEX clothing does not protect against electrical voltage or heat.

VIAG guideline: working safely on gas networks
The VIAG (Natural Gas Safety Instructions) describes how to work safely on gas networks and installations.
The guideline:
- Regulates authorizations, work procedures, and personal safety measures.
- Applies to work on gas pipes, connections, and meter installations.
- Is linked to training and authorization systems for gas personnel.
The VIAG is a national safety instruction, part of the VIAG/ELEC system.

FROM STANDARD TO PRACTICE
We are happy to share our knowledge of standards with you and your team. Through training courses, we explain what the various standards mean and how you can apply them in practice. This way, you can be sure that everyone is working in clothing that truly meets the requirements.
